January 2006AMD now own the patent license of Rambus memory controller technology. The License is including of intellectual property of FB-DIMM and XDR in DDR2 and DDR3.
Like reported on The Register, AMD spend US$75 million to buy the technology rights during five year. The agreement is inclusive of all chips except the memory.
Now inferential, it's possible that AMD will include the memory controller direct into the processor. The other news, AMD will introduce the new platform to compete with the Intel Viiv platform. With the similar name, AMD name it as AMD Live!.
According to AMD, the newest platform will enter the consumer market of multimedia desktop and notebook, what according to AMD will progressively expand in this middle of the year.
