January 2006Intel closes 2005 by launching Intel 955 Extreme Edition. Not surprising if AMD compete it by launching Athlon64 FX-60 in early of 2006. Basically, FX-60 isn't new architecture; it's based on AMD x86, 64-bit, and dual-core, but in more improvement performance.
Athlon64 FX-60 is a dual core processor which walk at 2,6 GHZ, quicker than Athlon64 X2 4800+. But don't know why, AMD prefer to use FX name the other name, like Athlon64 X2 5000+. Interesting thing from this processor is FX-60 own the core clock 200 MHz lower than FX-57. So, it's like owning two FX-55 processor in one processor.
This matter is because AMD believe that the multithread applications will more emerging. And even now NVIDIA and ATI non-stopped to develop the driver that exploiting CPU dual core. Each of AMD FX-60 core own L2 cache equal to 1 MB. Like every other AMD FX processor, FX-60 clock is not locked and can be easily to overclock.
