AMD Opteron Socket F
August 2006AMD officially have announced the revision F processor for the Opteron product 8000, 2000 and 1000 at server and workstation class. This matter is conducted by AMD to replying the challenge of Intel Xeon processor base on Woodcrest which have been launched previously.
In architecture, this revision F processor is same as the processors of other AMD computer desktop with AM2 socket. This revision F processor have supported the memory of DDR2 type, and use the socket likely used by Intel processor, that is LGA (Land Grid Array). But the difference, at LGA Opteron the socket pin amount is 1207. The new Opteron processor will own six different product type, there is x210, x212, x214, x216, x218 and x220. Where each of processor has speed, 1.8, 2.0, 2.2, 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8 GHz.
All of these processor models represent the dual-core processor. Others, this processors is also categorized become three group, that is standard group, HE And SE. AMD Opteron HE is a variant of low-power product which only need 55 Watt energy. The SE model, this is are a flagship processor and need the power till 125 Watt.
